Travel: NSF Student Travel Grant for 2026 Privacy Enhancing Technology Symposium (PETS'26)
U.S. National Science FoundationDescription
The 2026 Privacy Enhancing Technologies Symposium (PETS'26) will be held on July 20–25, 2026, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Established in 2000, PETS is a premier international venue addressing the design and realization of privacy services for the Internet and other data systems and communication networks, bringing together privacy and anonymity experts from around the world to discuss recent advances and emerging perspectives. Topics span anonymous communication, cryptographic tools for privacy, differential privacy and private data analysis, machine learning and privacy, measurement of privacy in real-world systems, human factors and usability of privacy technologies, and the policy, legal, and economic dimensions of privacy. This project provides travel support for students based at U.S. institutions to attend PETS'26. Conference participation is a critical part of the graduate research experience: it allows students to present their work, receive feedback from senior researchers, learn about the state of the art, and form new collaborations that shape their careers. By lowering the barriers to attendance, this project strengthens the pipeline of researchers and workforce who contribute to protecting privacy in increasingly data-intensive computing systems. This award reflects NSF's statutory mission and has been deemed worthy of support through evaluation using the Foundation's intellectual merit and broader impacts review criteria.
