Public Assistance (PA)

The Public Assistance (PA) program provides grant funding to state, tribal, territorial, and local governments, as well as certain private non-profit organizations, to reimburse them for costs associated with disaster recovery. This funding is triggered by a Presidential declaration of an emergency or major disaster. The program covers both Emergency Work (like debris removal and protective measures) completed within six months and Permanent Work (like repairs to roads, bridges, and public buildings) completed within 18 months. The standard cost share is 75% federal and 25% non-federal.
