CAREER ENHANCEMENT PROJECT 1: Data management and evaluation PROJECT SUMMARY: The Aaniiih Nakoda Tribes Native American Research Centers for Health (NARCH) Career Enhancement Project proposal will take an innovative approach to developing a pathway to data management and evaluation of Tribal data through the following training opportunities: 1. Data management and evaluation, and 2. Data science and artificial intelligence elective for scholars, and tribal health leaders. Through these efforts we will build Fort Belknap research capacity; produce findings allowing for better data-informed decision-making; and meet health needs prioritized by the Fort Belknap Aaniiih Nakoda Tribes. Our primary aims are to: (1) train, develop, and mentor Aaniiih and Nakoda scholars and Tribal health leaders through training in data management and evaluation at Aaniiih Nakoda College (ANC), JHU, and other universities. (2) train, develop, and mentor Aaniiih and Nakoda scholars and Tribal health leaders through training in data science and artificial intelligence, and (3) eliminate health disparities in suicide, substance use and mental/behavioral health work on the rural and remote Fort Belknap Reservation by improving data management and evaluation that will allow timely response to issues of concern. The NARCH grant will allow us to develop Aaniiih and Nakoda scholars as future leaders of our tribal health, mental/behavioral health, research, and data management and evaluation efforts. We are developing a pathway to Aaniiih and Nakoda Tribal Data Sovereignty through training, education, and mentorship. These activities will substantially increase our capacity to improve behavioral healthcare outcomes, especially for our youth. Collectively, Aaniiih and Nakoda scholars and health leaders will participate in coursework and training that will lead to data management and evaluation targeting key health disparities and advancing research skills of emerging Aaniiih and Nakoda scientists.
