CREATE Administrative Core

National Institute of Mental Health

Description

. The Administrative Core for the Center for Responsible and Equitable AI-Based Technology Evolution (CREATE) will build capacity, enhance innovation, and disseminate information to impact public mental health by fostering an environment of collaboration and information sharing around responsible, safe, and ethical use of large language models (LLMs) to support and extend use of evidence-based psychotherapies (EBPs). The Administrative Core will serve CREATE by ensuring efficiency and research synergy and by providing oversight and evaluation. We will develop a centralized home for center operations, provide administrative and scientific leadership, and provide accessible communication platforms to disseminate knowledge and resources. Dr. Shannon Wiltsey Stirman and Johannes Eichstaedt (MPI), the Co-Directors of CREATE, will lead the Administrative Core. They bring experience in administrative and scientific leadership, extensive professional networks, and partnerships with public mental health systems. They have a record of mentorship in mental health intervention and implementation research, and computational psychology. Together, they will oversee the organizational structures and processes that foster collaboration and knowledge sharing across the multidisciplinary Center and to the broader field. Dr. Eric Kuhn will oversee CREATE’s pilot program and coordinate mentoring activities, and Dr. Katherine Dondanville will lead stakeholder engagement efforts. CREATE will benefit from the substantial and comprehensive resources provided by Stanford University, including institutes and initiatives that support responsible and ethical use of Artificial Intelligence, community engagement, digital health and mental health technology, and career development and grantwriting. Our Center will serve as a national resource as we develop and refine methods to safely and ethically develop and deploy Generative AI-based interventions (Mental Health AI-Generated Interactive Conversational [MAGIC] tools) that support evidence-based PTSD treatment. The Administrative Core will provide a range of activities including a pilot funding program, virtual workshops, grand rounds, and expert consultation along with a repository of resources to disseminate information and support efforts in the field to conduct development, research and implementation activities. We will foster a climate that inspires innovation and collaboration while overseeing progress and providing quality control for our projects and products. We will engage broad audiences through dissemination efforts such as scientific publications and conference presentations, a repository of resources, and traditional and social media. Our interactive, public domain, online portals will be essential tools for our researchers and partners to facilitate Open Science data and resource sharing.
