Conference: Society for Developmental Biology Annual Meetings 2026-2028

Developmental biology focuses on understanding how an organism develops from a single fertilized egg cell into a mature individual and encompasses the study of aging and reproduction. The Society for Developmental Biology (SDB) annual meetings stand as the central meeting platform, drawing scientists and students devoted to the study of developmental biology from around the World. The SDB meetings aim not only to advance the study of developmental biology and related areas, but also to create a supportive platform for all researchers in the field. Additionally, we are dedicated to educating a broad audience, including principal investigators, postdoctoral fellows, graduate and undergraduate students, and educators, about the ethical and social issues surrounding the field, including science education throughout the US. These events bring together a broad community of scholars, fostering invaluable connections and helping to further develop the STEM workforce. This award will provide partial support for early career researcher attendance at the SDB annual meetings in 2026, 2027, and 2028. Developmental biology has been advancing at a very fast pace. In recent years, there have been amazing transformations in technologies and integration with mathematical, computational and physical sciences, resulting in the adoption of multifaceted, qualitative and quantitative approaches. The SDB annual meetings have evolved with these shifts, consistently offering a platform for the latest breakthroughs in developmental biology, biomedicine and biotechnology. With the need to connect these different technologies and large data sets, we envision including sessions and workshops on proper use of artificial intelligence at our meetings to help the unfamiliar investigators to understand and make knowledgeable decisions on adapting this approach to their research. The SDB mission is to educate the scientists at the forefront of scientific advancements, nurture young scientists, and facilitate rich knowledge exchanges between established and emerging investigators. This award reflects NSF's statutory mission and has been deemed worthy of support through evaluation using the Foundation's intellectual merit and broader impacts review criteria.
