Description
This award supports the conference Probabilistic Combinatorics, to be held October 8–10, 2026 at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The meeting will assemble about 75 researchers from combinatorics, probability, and theoretical computer science, including leading senior figures, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students. Its goals are to synthesize recent breakthroughs in random discrete structures and allied areas, to identify central open problems and methods for future work, and to strengthen interactions across subfields influenced by probabilistic methods. Probabilistic combinatorics is a central area of modern discrete mathematics and theoretical computer science. Recent advances on combinatorial designs, Ramsey numbers, thresholds of monotone properties, random greedy processes, and hypergraph containers have reshaped the field and produced tools with impact across graph theory, additive combinatorics, algorithms, and probability. The conference will accelerate dissemination of new techniques, clarify promising research directions, and catalyze collaborations at the research frontier. The website of the conference is at https://github.com/probcomb/probcomb.github.io# This award reflects NSF's statutory mission and has been deemed worthy of support through evaluation using the Foundation's intellectual merit and broader impacts review criteria.
