Conference: Emerging Researchers in Exoplanet Science: ERES XI at the University of Michigan

U.S. National Science Foundation

Description

The University of Michigan will organize and host the eleventh Emerging Researchers in Exoplanet Science Symposium (ERES XI) on July 27 & 28, 2026. This conference is aimed at early-career scientists working in exoplanet science and related fields. ERES conferences provide opportunities for early-career scientists to meet each other, form collaborative networks, and present their research in a low-pressure environment. These conferences can greatly aid the trajectory of early-career researchers by connecting them to the community and the next generation of exoplanet scientists. The ERES is an annual conference series aimed at early-career scientists (e.g. graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, advanced undergraduate students, postbaccalaureate researchers) studying any aspect of exoplanet science, as well as related fields such as stellar astrophysics, planetary science, and Earth sciences. ERES is traditionally hosted on a rotating basis by partner institutions Cornell, Penn State, Princeton, and Yale. This is the first time that ERES has been hosted outside of its traditional four institutions, providing a novel opportunity for young scientists at Midwestern institutions to attend. ERES provides a space for emerging researchers to form long-term collaboration with each other, present their current research, capitalize on opportunities for scientific cooperation, and foster professional development with their current, and future, peers. This award reflects NSF's statutory mission and has been deemed worthy of support through evaluation using the Foundation's intellectual merit and broader impacts review criteria.
