Conference: Arrangements in Oregon

This award funds a workshop on the combinatorics and topology of hyperplane arrangements. The workshop will take place in August 2026, at the University of Oregon, which has a long history of work on this subject. Eleven distinguished researchers have agreed to give talks on recent trends in the subject. The workshop will have six 40-minute talks per day as well as unscheduled time for collaboration and an open-problem session. The workshop will be open to all and will particularly target postdocs and graduate students. The study of the topology of hyperplane arrangements is concerned with the interaction between combinatorial data and topological data. One type of question involves the extent to which topological invariants are determined by combinatorial invariants. Another type of question is to what extent topology and geometry can be used to prove combinatorial properties of matroid invariants.
