Conference: 2026 NSF CSSI Principal Investigator (PI) Meeting

This project supports a two-day meeting for scholars supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) Cyberinfrastructure for Sustained Scientific Innovation (CSSI) program. This event is held alongside and coordinated with meetings for investigators awarded through the NSF Training-based Workforce Development for Advanced Cyberinfrastructure (CyberTraining) and the NSF Strengthening the Cyberinfrastructure Professionals Ecosystem (SCIPE) programs. It serves as a platform for participants to discuss how to advance their funded efforts to create an agile, integrated, robust, trustworthy, and sustainable cyberinfrastructure ecosystem. The jointly held meeting emphasizes the opportunities for collaboration between the awardees of the three programs, catalyzing the development of sustainable cyberinfrastructure research, education, and workforce development communities that transcend program, discipline, and geographic boundaries. The two-day meeting for awardees supported by the National Science Foundation's CSSI program will provide a venue for sharing innovations and best practices for creating a software and data cyberinfrastructure ecosystem that scales from individuals and small groups of researchers to large research communities. These workshop interactions will support the continued development of science and engineering researchers and educators who will go on to advance, deploy, and utilize the nation’s cyberinfrastructure resources and services. This meeting catalyzes collaborations and insights that accelerate research in science and engineering, furthering the impact of NSF support. Through a combination of structured and unstructured meetings and discussions, the attendees provide directions and recommendations for the cyberinfrastructure community. The meeting encourages formal and informal interactions between participants, encourages participant contributions that can be transformed into actionable recommendations, and has plenary sessions to contextualize and amplify the meeting topics. The meeting encourages participants in facilitated small-group sessions to capture discussion outcomes in real-time and synthesizes these into the full meeting report. Meeting impacts are assessed in a final report, which is disseminated through public archival services and advertised to participants and the broader scientific community. This award reflects NSF's statutory mission and has been deemed worthy of support through evaluation using the Foundation's intellectual merit and broader impacts review criteria.
